‘WAGs’ of FIFA players who are entrepreneurs and superstars in their own right

With the World Cup of  ’The Beautiful Game’  underway, there is a lot of excitement in the air with anxious Indian fans overdosing on caffeine to witness  matches at odd hours, making last minute changes to their fantasy league squads. We at yourstory are equally excited too.

While all the attention is on the field. There is a lot of action happening along the sidelines too. If you look up the term  ‘WAGs’ ie ‘wives and girlfriends’ in the Oxford dictionary it states : A wife or girlfriend of a sports player, typically characterized as having a high media profile and a glamorous lifestyle.’ This is an unfair generalization for sure. There are plenty of wives and girlfriends of sportsmen who have the lethal combination of  beauty with brains.They are successful business women, top ranking journalists, actresses, models and even chart-topping singers. Most of these women are superstars in their own right.

Here are a few successful ‘ WAGS’ of FIFA players :

Victoria Beckham:

Victoria Beckham or ‘Posh’ Beckham as she has been nicknamed is one of the most successful ‘WAGs’, is married to former England captain David Beckham. She is a successful businesswoman, fashion designer, model and singer.

Her career in fashion includes designing a line of jeans for Rock & Republic and later designing her own denim brand, dVb Style. She has also brought out her own range of sunglasses and fragrance, titled ‘Intimately Beckham’, which has been released both in the UK and the US. In association with the Japanese store Samantha Thavasa and Shiatzy Chen, she has produced a range of handbags and jewelry. In addition, Beckham has released two best-selling books; an autobiography and a fashion guide.

She was one of the five Spice Girls, a popular British pop girl group formed in 1994. She has four children with her husband David Beckham and an estimated worth of about $54 million.

 

Shakira

Shakira is an award winning singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, dancer and also a philanthropist. She is the partner of Spain’s Gerard Piqué.

She has received a total of 10 Grammy awards, including two U.S. awards and eight Latin awards. Additionally, she was nominated for a Golden Globe and has also won 12 Billboard Latin Music Awards. She is well known for her hits such as ‘Whenever, Wherever,’ ‘ Hips Don’t Lie.’, Waka Waka’ to name a few. In 2008,  Forbes magazine ranked her as the fourth highest earning woman in music.

She currently serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, founded  the barefoot foundation, a non-profit devoted to making education universally available. She had also been nominated for one of the top charitable awards in the world – the Prince of Asturias Concord Award,which recognizes philanthropists. She has an estimated worth of $220 million.

 

Leah Totton

She is currently in the process of opening a chain of cosmetic clinics across the UK, with the 250,000 pound investment she received from winning  ’The Apprentice’ and partnering with Lord Sugar. Her clinics will provide a  variety of highly effective skin care and beauty treatments, including chemical peels, anti-wrinkle procedures, and the revolutionary 3D Lipomed treatments.

She is  in a relationship with England’s Goalkeeper, Fraser Forster, but did not go to Brazil to support Fraser as she was busy with her own venture.

 

Coleen Rooney :

She had her own column in the celebrity magazine ‘ Closer ’entitled ‘Welcome to My World’, for which she earned up to £10,000. She left Closer in 2008. She then went on to write a weekly column for OK! magazine.

Rooney’s autobiography, Welcome to My World, was released in March 2007.

She also  struck a deal with the retail and gambling company Littlewoods. She felt that the role was a perfect match in enabling her to select and wear her favorite styles as well as share her ideas on how to carry off the season’s new trends.

 

Pilar Rubio:

She has also appeared in commercials on television for Amstel , Canal+ and Hyundai.

 

Mandy Capristo:

Mandy Capristo is a German singer, songwriter, dancer, and model. She rose to fame as a founding member of the girl band Monrose, .Until their disbandment in 2011, the trio released four studio albums and eleven singles.She is the girlfriend of Germany’s Mesut Ozil.MandyCapr_YS

Capristo launched her solo career as a singer. In 2011, she collaborated with singer Peter Maffay on his Tabaluga musical track. In between recording her first solo album Grace (2012), Capristo participated in the fifth season of Let’s Dance. Her first solo single, “The Way I Like It”, was released in April 2012. She had also signed an advertising contract with Gillette Venus and filmed commercials for ProSieben. She has also modeled for the popular fashion brand Ed Hardy.

 

Ann-Kathrin Brommel

Yolanthe Sneijder-Cabau

From 2005 to 2008, she had a recurring role in the soap opera ‘ Onderweg naar morgen ‘.

 

Christine Bleakley
