Meet the woman who weaved Bhagavad Geeta on a cloth

For Assam-based weaver Hemprabha, her nine months were spent doing something unusual. Weaving 500 verses of Bhagavad Geeta in Sanskrit and a chapter in English was a task she called upon herself.

Hema started the process of weaving in December. This is not the only time she has invested her time in something like this. Earlier, she had weaved six stanzas of Sankardev Gunamala on a 17-inch-broad and 80-feet-long Guna and Muga Silk cloth, which took her nine months to complete, says a report by ANI.

Speaking to the reporters of ANI, she said,

After the hard work of nine month, I weaved the Gunamala on cloth. I have been appreciated a lot all over the state for my work. Now I am weaving Bhagwat Geeta in Sanskrit and English language.

She has also urged the government that her work should be preserved and displayed in a museum for preservation, adds the report.

The Bhagavad Gita, which is often referred to as simply the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture in Sanskrit that is a part of the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer Lord Krishna. Arjuna is counselled by Lord Krishna to fulfill his Kshatriya (warrior) duty as a warrior and establish Dharma.
